What about a windy pit? The plumb ball will be all over the place.

I am now retired after 40 years in the elevator industry, 22 of them in installations. During that time, I hung a lot of plumb lines, and because even with small diameter plumb wires and 50 lbs. line weights, it takes very little wind to cause the lines to move, not to mention lines having a habit of being accidentially moved while being worked around, once the lines had settled into place in the pit during the initial hanging, they were then fastened on to the face of a board that was in line with the face of the rails in the pit. Maybe on a 2 or 3 landing install, a bucket of water might suffice to steady a line, but on a high rise, there'd be more time spent on waiting for the lines to settle than actually working on aligning the rails.
How about hire a real elevator mechanic before someone dies

It's a thankless job. Instead of saying "thank you" they would of been complaining about "why did they break in the first place". Or, "why did it take you so long", and my favorite "these things break down every day." Bah, humbug. ;-)
Now make one where the tech goes out on Christmas eve, drives for hours and nothing is wrong with the unit when he finally gets to the building. Seriously though, great video. Really hit home for me as a new dad who takes repair calls at generally inconvenient times.
